The five weeks I spent in southern Spain changed me in ways I cannot fully put into words. From the first day, I was challenged, stretched and pushed beyond what I thought were my limits. Every street I walked, every conversation I had, every new experience required me to step outside my comfort zone. Living there forced me to rely on myself, to face uncertainty, and to discover strengths I didn't know I had.
Southern Spain taught me lessons I could never have learned in a classroom. I improved my Spanish far beyond what I expected and connected with people whose openness left a lasting impression. I learned by doing: making paella in a small kitchen, riding camels in Morocco, swimming on the beaches of Tarifa, visiting and talking with a classroom of fourth graders, walking through markets in Tetouan, and exploring every garden in La Alhambra. Through those experiences I realized how much insight comes from being fully present, watching how life unfolds around you, and understanding a culture not from books, but from real, lived experience.. This trip left me with a feeling I know I will spend the rest of my life chasing, a sense of curiosity, confidence and connection that comes from fully immersing yourself in a new place and culture. I will carry this feeling with me in everything I do, and if I am given the chance, I will tell everyone I meet about Spain -- its people, its streets, its beaches, its history -- because it changed me completely and gave me a perspective I will never forget. I am deeply grateful to the scholarship committee for giving me this opportunity. What I gained goes far beyond memories or experience; it showed me how much I can grow when I challenge myself, how much the world has to offer, and how much more I want to see and do.
