The Application Process

Step One - Select One of the Following Options:

  1. Full Academic Year (2026–2027 Degree Program)
    Complete and submit the attached application form and all required documentation by May 1, 2026.
  2. Second Semester (Spring) and/or Summer School (2026–2027)
    Complete and submit the attached application form and all required documentation by November 1, 2025.
  3. Individual Courses or Training Programs
    If you are seeking support for individual courses or educational training, you may apply at any time by contacting the Step Forward Scholarship Committee at [email protected].
 
Step 2 - Submit Your Application

  • Complete the application form found here.  
  • ​​Submit your application using one of the following methods:
    1. Email: Complete the PDF form and email it to [email protected]
    2. In Person: Print the completed PDF, place it in an envelope, and drop it in the Members Box near the reception desk at the GC Clubhouse.
  • Write a personal statement
    Submit a brief personal statement (approximately one typed page, double-spaced) describing your educational and career goals and how a Step Forward Scholarship will help you achieve them.

Confidentiality Notice:
All information you provide will remain confidential and will be used only by the Scholarship Committee and the SFSF Board to determine eligibility.

The Review Process
​
  • Create a strong application by providing a complete and accurate information. Incomplete applications will be returned and must be resubmitted by a new deadline.
  • Scholarship recipients may request support from an SFSF mentor. Mentors can assist with school applications, resumes, internships, and other educational guidance. [email protected] for mentoring support.
  • You will receive email confirmation when your application has been received. Please respond promptly via email.
  • The Scholarship Committee Chair will contact you to schedule a brief interview. You will also be asked to consent to having your photo taken.  We strongly urge you to view our Interview Workshop video in preparation.  This video can be viewed here . 
  • Once accepted into your educational institution or program, submit written proof of acceptance. SFSF will either pay the institution directly or reimburse you for approved expenses (receipts required).
  • Awards are contingent upon the recipient (or the recipient’s parent/guardian) maintaining employment with the Governors Club for at least nine months and continuing employment during the award period.
  • Within one month of completing your academic term, submit a written report (500 words or less) describing:
    • Your key accomplishments
    • Challenges you faced
    • What you learned
    • How the scholarship supported you
    • Your most meaningful experience
    • Email your report to [email protected]
 
How Scholarship Awards Are Evaluated
​

The Scholarship Committee considers the following factors:
  • Educational plans and goals
  • Field of study or career path
  • Academic performance
  • Personal character
  • Financial need
  • Leadership and community involvement
  • Quality of the personal statement
  • Interview performance
  • Reference letter(s)

 If You Are Currently Enrolled in School
  • Complete your academic term or program as planned.
  • Submit your required report to the Scholarship Committee within one month of completing your term.
  • Notify the Scholarship Committee immediately of any changes to your enrollment, program, graduation timeline, or school.
  • If transferring to another institution, provide a transcript from your previous school.
  • Maintain employment with the Governors Club during the scholarship period.
